TubinNews.com – In today’s modern era, smartphones have become a major challenge in classrooms and are gradually affecting the quality of student learning. While smartphones can be useful, their presence during lessons often creates educational problems. Many students bring their phones to school every day. The presence of smartphones in the classroom can negatively affect student focus and may significantly impact their academic performance.

First, constant notifications from social media continuously draw students’ attention away during lessons. As a result, students often lose concentration and struggle to follow classroom discussions. In addition, students tend to use their phones secretly instead of paying attention to the teacher’s explanations. Consequently, they may miss important information and participate less actively in learning activities.

Second, students who use their phones during class often receive lower grades than those who remain focused on lessons. Furthermore, multitasking between smartphones and classroom activities makes it more difficult for students to absorb and retain learning material. Although some students may believe they can manage both tasks successfully, research suggests otherwise. Therefore, academic performance is likely to decline when smartphone use becomes frequent during class.

Finally, continuous smartphone use may gradually shorten students’ attention spans over time. Moreover, excessive dependence on smartphones can reduce opportunities for deep thinking and critical engagement with learning materials. This effect may influence not only classroom learning but also future academic development.

In conclusion, the presence of smartphones in the classroom poses a serious challenge to student focus and academic performance. Therefore, schools should establish clear regulations regarding smartphone use in classrooms to ensure that technology supports learning rather than distracts students.
